Flights to Zadar

Jczadar is a good place to start for finding good flights from different parts of the world. Scandjet has direct flights from Gothenburg, Sweden to Zadar. There are also flights starting around the 1st of April available directly from Stockholm with Ryan Air.

Domestic Flights

Croatia Airlines is the only carrier that flies within Croatia. Zadar is linked by direct flights only to Zagreb. From Zagreb, there are connecting flights to Pula, Split and Dubrovnik.

Ground Transport from the Airport

By rental car:
Take route 502 directly into downtown Zadar.

By taxi
A taxi from the airport to downtown Zadar costs from 150 to 250 HRK, depending on the time of day (evenings, Sundays and holidays are more expensive) Check out the taxi transfer service if you want to make sure to get a fixed price.

By bus to Zadar
Zadar Airport is only about 8km east of Zadar town centre. There are two bus lines that service the airport. Each costs 25HRK including baggage.

For Croatia Airlines flights
The bus stop is on Liburnska obala near the Croatia Airlines office and buses leave one hour before take-off. At the airport, the bus stop is next to the main building entrance.

For other flights
Buses leave from platform 35 of the Zadar Bus Station and arrive at the front gate of the international arrival terminal.             top

From Zadar you can take a train to Zagreb, Sibenik, Split or Knin

There are four daily trains from Zagreb to Zadar that go on to Sibenik and Split. There are two high-speed trains daily from Zagreb to Zadar that take less than seven hours with a change at Knin. There's also a night train but there is no train from Zadar to Dubrovnik.

Bus travel within Europe

If you are planning on travelling by bus within Europe then eurolines are a real good place to start for getting good prices and schedules. You might have to connect through Rijeka or Zagreb depending on where you are travelling from.

Zadar's bus station is a short walk from the town centre

There are frequent buses from Zadar to Rijeka (4 1/2 hours), Split (3 hours) Dubrovnik (6 1/2 hours) and Zagreb (4 to 5 hours). Some buses from Zagreb stop at Plitvice Lakes National Park allowing time for a quick visit.

International Ferries to Zadar

There is only one international ferry to Zadar and that is the Ancona to Zadar line which runs all year round. Click here to check schedules, availability and to book.

Zadar does not have a ferry connection to other towns on the Dalmatian coast.

Local car ferries to Zadar are entirely handled by Jadrolinija. Miatours handles fast passenger boats between Zadar and nearby islands. Local ferries cannot be booked online.

Travel by car

The long-awaited motorway connecting Zagreb and Zadar has shortened travel time between the two cities to a mere 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Someday pretty soon (say 2010) that motorway will run as far south as Dubrovnik and maybe even beyond. Travel time will be much shorter but no way will it be as scenic as the winding, sometimes scary coastal road.

Nearly all car rental companies in Croatia have an outlet in Zadar town or at Zadar airport. I find that EconomyCarRentals usually has the best deals.      top
